Maria Leontina used to accumulate references and objects of popular art, such as religious statuary and indigenous artifacts, from which she drew inspiration to produce her works.
The exhibition “Maria Leontina: from form to whole”, on show at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, investigates the way the artist used to relate to these objects that she collected in the incessant search to translate into images what her hands could feel. The curators are Renato Menezes and Thierry Freitas.
Visit the show at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo until September 10, at Praça da Luz, 2, Bom Retiro. The show is open from Wednesday to Monday, from 10am to 6pm, and admission costs 20 reais (full price).
At Dan Galeria, the artist has already starred in an individual show, “Maria Leontina – Poetics and Metaphysics”, in 2017, and participated in the group shows “Women Ahead”, in 2020, and “The tallest towers begin on the ground”, in 2022.
