It is with great pleasure that Dan Galeria announces the representation of the sculptor Franz Weissmann in partnership with the artist’s Institute.

Born in Austria, Franz Weissmann arrived in Brazil with his family at the age of 11, and from the 50s onwards, Weissmann integrates great abstract movements that acted as a landmark in the history of constructive art, an essential matrix of Brazilian sculptural thought. It is the case of its performance in Grupo Frente from 1955, which resulted in the National Exhibition of Concrete Art in 1957 and two years later of the Neoconcrete Group.

By searching the essence of the figure, he makes sculptures that are increasingly geometrizing, in which the spaces already appears as a defining element. Throughout his career, the “active void” – as the artist defines such spaces – becomes an obsession. It is from the game between the plane and its articulations with the hollow element that the open three-dimensionality for the world of Weissmann’s sculptures is born.
