For me, the word “Sense” has to do with experiencing things with all the senses. It’s not just about transferring what you’ve seen, but about using all your senses to record the place or object. That’s what my job is about.

When I go to the Amazon Basin and other places in Brazil, I take a lot of photos, make small watercolors, drawings, I write not only what I see, but also what I smell, what I hear, and what I feel under my feet.

I remember what it was like to play something and get a taste of the environment. I record all those experiences. But I never paint there. Time is dedicated solely to recording ideas and feelings.

Then I returned to the studio in Healdsburg, printed the photos, analyzed my notes, and began to record not only what I could see, but what I knew to be true about the place. I hope that the work will translate this about the objects or the place, which I consider to be much more important than obtaining an exactly correct visual result
