About

São Paulo, Brasil
18/09/2010 - 30/10/2010

Dan Galeria has been directing its exhibitions and events to artists from the Brazilian Constructivist movement for some years. he published the book lothar charoux, a poética dalinha, with a simultaneous exposure to mam, both awarded by apca. he exhibited lygia clark, fiaminghi, sacilotto, mavignier and the collective concrete and neoconcrete art, from construction to deconstruction.

in this year of 2010, when the

60 years of constructive art in brazil, dan gallery set out to hold an exhibition that goes back to the genesis of this movement, bringing together works by max bill and two of his brazilian students from the ulm school: mavignier and wollner.

they are two masters of design and concrete painting, exclusive artists from the dan gallery and members of the group of artists that are now the object of study and recognition by international critics and collectors.

just as the paris school was fundamental to the history of brazilian modernism, the arrival of max bill’s works in 1950, his retrospective exhibition of masp in 1951 and the 1st prize at the são paulo biennial in the same year set the historical moment of the recently started constructive movement, as can be clearly seen in the comprehensive study of aracy amaral, in his book project brazilian constructive.

one of the most seductive aspects of constructive art is the explanation of the beautiful, through the harmony of mathematical relationships, underlying all visible reality. constructivism replaces naturalistic mimesis, going to the core of structures.

point, line, plane, geometric constructions, structures underlying everything that surrounds us, are taken and remind us of the beautiful, in its genesis.

this exhibition, simultaneous with the 29th são paulo biennale, continues the constructive exhibitions at dan gallery featuring historical and current paintings, serigraphs and plottergraphs, in a total of 52 works and various media.

We must highlight our thanks for the special collaboration of the publisher cosac naify, andré stolarski, augusto de campo, alexandre wollner and ferreira gullar who, with their work, cooperation and authorization, helped to make the exhibition and this publication possible.
