São Paulo, Brazil, 1992
Fabiano Senk (b.1992) is an urban figurative painter based in São Paulo, Brazil. Using dreamy color palettes of blues, yellows, and pinks, Senk creates street art and canvas paintings. Senk’s values and vision of life are evident in his compositions, as he incorporates what he sees as pillars of the community in the narratives he tells. We often find figures playing musical instruments in his works, as Senk sees music as a unifier of all people. Senk’s father taught him how to play the guitar when he was just a boy. Each work that Senk creates he describes as a self-portrait. The crowds of yourself are evident in the variety of figures you create. The eye is the window to the soul and, as a result, it creates figures with multiple eyes, reflecting the many different selves
it contains.
Often, the figures in his paintings burst with places mixed with smaller figures, telling the story of a person through the places he came from, the people he met, and the person he used to be. Senk finds beauty in everyday life through his paintings. Even immersing himself in more difficult emotions in his work, he mentioned that it often incorporates the feeling of melancholy, but that “it is different from sadness because it is more beautiful”. His works that he spreads on the streets of São Paulo tend to have political connotations, as he tries to broaden the perspectives of the people in his community. Street murals often relate to Brazilian politics and criticize conservative policies under the current leadership. Occasionally, this flows into his canvas work, as he will stick paper money on his figures, creating monsters made with money, feeding on
chaos and destruction.
Senk stayed with Chase Contemporary in August 2022 for a one-month residency. Throughout his time at the artist’s studio, he experimented with mediums and scale, executing a portfolio of impressive works throughout his stay. He exhibited in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba
